15th steam indoor meeting

Karlsruhe, 14. - 16. 01. 2011

Variety is the spice of life so we presented only small steam locomotives on this year steam meeting in Karlsruhe. Our tour provided 17 participants mostly members of S.M.P.D. Society.

Advantage of small models represenation is a substantially more simple logistic. We do not need a big lorry because locomotives, waggons and water cans we load to our passenger cars without trouble. And loading and unloading itself is very easy. Mr Chudoba participated in the steam meeting with us. He transported a few models of sandstone buildings. We separated respective models in our three cars.

Railway yard for models scale IIm was designed as well as in last years. Railway yard with a two return loops has had shape of letter "U". There were a four groups of side and heating tracks on the right side. Some modelers have had their backgrounds along track. Two rails of railway scale "0" led around this yard and this scale had absolute right of way. The critical point was crossing "IIm" scale rail with "0" scale rail near our depot. But we did not cause no collision.

Occasionally a gas is out before than engine driver supposes and steam engine is without a pressure. Engine driver must take immediate action because an immobile locomotive hampers other trains. But Martin solved it operatively. Following train was club too, so he coupled both trains. Pusher steam engine 99 5603 worked hardly.

"Why does it not go?"

Jiri Sajbrt brought a new model of lumberjack locomotive Climax in scale 1:28 with one. He completed it just before steam meeting. It smelled novelty still. Really well-done model. This model was running-in and he operated it only pads to regular run-in. It ran like clockwork. And Jiri hated question: "Did you put it on track today at last?" He was a little aggressive and apathetic eventually ...  (you can see building of Climax on his web pages www.steamer.cz)

Highlight our attendance was real loading test. Jiri Sajbrt conceived a plan to try traction force our steam locomotives. He made a special ten-axle waggon for oversize load. And then he sat on this waggon and he get a haul. And we managed to pull him with six steam locomotives. Mr Regner, as designer these steam locomotives, watched this test and he was maybe pleased.

But Echtdampf-Hallentreffen do not live only of small steam locomotives. There were also another exhibitors of steam locomotives various scales, stationary steam engines and marine models in exhibition hall No. 1.

What write in conclusion? The steam meeting itself did not differ from last year´s season. Maybe exhibitors was a bit less than, but those smaller. Bigger companies belong among fixed star in Karlsruhe. Chances of shopping various modelling material, professional literature and another accessories are a great many.
Our this year´s return to small models was a good idea. We were a highly visible element in our club overalls. It is nice watch how is S.M.P.D. Society and its models grow.
