Steam engine "Krzenowic"

We gain experience with large scale steam engines two years. We took a resolution in this "weighting" category and we ordered own 5" locomotive from Swiss company SOB (Südostbahn) in 2008. SOB producing our locomotive with serial No. 50 over a year and we first time fired on Sinsheim steam exhibition in Januray 2009:

We cleaned and returned back steam engine to SOB after first runs. Their engineers must make some technical adjustments. Whereupon steam engine will to hand finally (boiler certification including).

Technical description:

Model of steam engine appear from real follow copy - locomotive of German company Orenstein&Koppel. This steam engine was usage on much building sites. I found only two photos of extant steam engine - torso of steam engine "Lukas" from 1918 in steam house SchBB (Schinznacher Baumschulbahn).



Wagon-boiler and boiler furnace
The model is built as pair-horse, very robust and with very big capacity of the boiler furnace. The boiler is made from iron (certification including). Heating tubing diameter is 14mm and tubing are clean so far. Be enough insufflate for them by compressed air after working day. Hole into boiler furnace is biggish so that steam attendance needn´t fragmentate coal. An anthracite is best for steam engine, but you can use less quality coal at the expense of higher volume of the smoke.
Coal quality is very important for amount of unburned particle which settled in the smoke-box. Frequently check-on smoke-box is recommended. Too large plurality of the unburned particle confines boiler draught and it causes marked fall of steam pressure.
The steam engine has got two-piece fire grate which you can easily take out by slot above engine floor. But ash falls on wheels and crank gear.

Steam and oil distribution, steam engine operation
Loads of steam admision into two cylinders interlocks steam regulator. Steam regulator is placed in the middle part above boiler furnace. Cylinders has got water drain valves which have control over lever in left front part. Water drain valves open off while a drive-away of steam engine in order to ablation condensed steam from cylinders. There is a steam gauge for check on pressure. Steam engine gets rolling from 5 PSI pressure and it is able to ride-out some few meters with 3 PSI. Safety valves are set at 10 PSI - we alerady know, when safety valves burst up on our steam engine, because they have very specific sound.
Forced feed lubricator with ratchet-wheel ensures lubrication of steam cylinders. It is placed on the right side. Oil tank is not very bulky for two cylinders and capacity of an oil is relatively small - endurance is about 1500m.
Cranked adjusting if you like control driving direction is ensured by reverser level. This lever is placed at front right side of engine cab. The reverser has got five positions - two positions for forward running, two positions for reverse running and neutral position.
The steam engine has got mechanical brake. Brake has control over crank-handle at left side of engine cab. There is not much place for crank movement, but if engine driver looks "sufficiently" forwardly, engine steam safely halts with full laden train. The steam engine has got whistle, too. Whistle has control over level at top part of boiler furnace.
Controls are all-metall and you can service them without gloves. But be careful while open water drain valves.

Water
Water supply is solved through hose system from a reservoir in service car. We must fill a water to boiler by hand pump before heating-up. The axle pump is in service during the riding. We can throw over a water circulation back to reservoir by the bypass valve. The steam engine has got a steam pump and injector, which we use during longer staying in the station. We can blow off water from boiler by the blow valve at right bottom part of steam engine.
