16th Echtdampf-Hallentreffen

Karlsruhe, 13. - 15. 01. 2012

So that is us, the participants of the 16th steam meeting in Karlsruhe.
(photo © Jura Sajbrt)

After last year participation with small steam locomotives we went to Karlsruhe with this same models this year too. Total eighteen models represented Society of the Moravian Park Railways on 16th international steam meeting. Halls No. 1 and No. 2 were available for modelers and visitors same as the last year. There were small scales, stationary steam engines, ship models and exhibition stands in the hall No. 1, but it seemed us that exhibitions stands were less than last year. An economic recesion is on the strong German marketplace. If the exhibition grounds wants to collect participation fees from next year so participation will be even smaller. We heard this information, too. Locomotives and trains of the different scales circled on the two separated yards in the hall No. 2.
We had a very important task - a propagation of the Park Railway Olympia and especially 1st. Steam Olympia which we prepare to the main station grand opening. A trilingual information booklets were prepared including application form. There where gradually presented to foreign modellers. We got an invitation to meeting of the Dampfbahn-Club Deutschland which associates German model clubs. Roman presented info about our park railway. And interest in a new park railway is increasing, it seems. But for many foreing modellers is difficult to identify a city of Brno position. We got most often a question: "How to you get from Germany? Through Vienna?" Maybe we overestimated the use of GPS navigation today. Maybe especially older "real steam" modellers not be friends with this technologies. It is not on steam so I do not care. But application forms come gradually, so visitors of the 1st Steam Olympiad have a treat in store in June.

We tried pulling power of the small "regner´s" locomotives last year. We used the presence of four steam locomotives KARTHAUS, LISELOTTE, PETROV and VINOHRADY this year. We coupled them together and joined them with all our cars. Engine drivers must be harmonized among themselves and they have to keep steady power of the steam engine. One burnt-out locomotive reduces pulling power of the all train. And remaining locomotives must share its weight in addition. It is very interesting watch activity around locomotives during planned stopping for a water refuelling.

I hope so we fulfiled our main task - presentation of the Park Railway Olympia Brno and 1st Steam Olympia. All information materials were distributed and response of modellers was positive. We look forward to their early visit. I think, they are well together. Occasional jibing betveen members not be amiss. The person in question rises above it. I wish us a long time without cabin fever. Only then we will have a chance to overcome all challenges linked with building and operation our park railway. This is only right way for enjoy each joint action.
